Śloka 1 — Announcement — another cause of inauspicious birth despite a good chart
Now, O Maitreya, I shall declare to you a further cause in this matter — that by which the birth of men becomes inauspicious even when the aṅga (the lagna and its limbs) is auspicious and is accompanied by benefic grahas.
BPHS Adhyāya 86, śloka 1
Śloka 2 — Inauspicious birth times (i) — bhadrā, amāvāsyā, kṛṣṇa caturdaśī, saṃkrānti, brother's/father's nakṣatra, the three gaṇḍāntas
In bhadrā (the viṣṭi karaṇa), in amāvāsyā, on the caturdaśī of the dark fortnight, and at the saṃkrama (ingress) of the Sun; or in the nakṣatra of a brother or of the father, or in the triad of gaṇḍāntas (the three kinds — of tithi, of nakṣatra, and of lagna) —
BPHS Adhyāya 86, śloka 2
Śloka 3 — Inauspicious birth times (ii) — eclipses, dagdha, pāta, avama (kṣaya) tithi, yamaghaṇṭa, vyatīpāta
at a solar or lunar eclipse, in a dagdha conjunction, at a pāta, and also at an avama (a lost/kṣaya tithi); in yamaghaṇṭa, or in vyatīpāta and the like yogas — if the birth of men falls (at such times) —
BPHS Adhyāya 86, śloka 3
Śloka 4 — Inauspicious birth by sibling-order and by abnormal delivery — the apodosis
(or) if a son is born after three daughters, or a daughter after three sons, or again if there is a disorder in the delivery itself — the birth is inauspicious.
BPHS Adhyāya 86, śloka 4
Śloka 5 — Remedy — perform the śāstra-sanctioned śānti; announcement of what follows
For the obtaining of good, the wise man should perform the śānti sanctioned by the declarations of the śāstra. By śānti welfare comes to be; therefore I shall now state that (śānti) in due order.
