The complete Chapter on the Results of the Sixth Bhāva (Disease and the like) chapter of the Bṛhat-Pārāśara-Horāśāstra — all 28 verses, each in the original Sanskrit with VedicSpace's clean-room English translation, cited by śloka. Translated from the Chaukhamba (Devachandra Jha) edition and audited against the printed plates.

Śloka 1 — Announcement of the sixth-bhāva chapter

Now, O Muni, I shall declare to you the results pertaining to the sixth bhāva, by which you will come to know the diseases, wounds and so forth in the body of the native.

BPHS Adhyāya 18, śloka 1

Śloka 2 — Wound on the body from a malefic 6th lord

If the lord of the sixth, being a malefic, is placed in his own house (the sixth), or in the deha (lagna), or in the eighth, then there is a wound on the body, in that limb which corresponds to the rāśi occupied by that bhāva.

BPHS Adhyāya 18, śloka 2

Śloka 3 — Wounds to relations — protasis (bhāva lords with kārakas)

In the same manner, if the lords of the bhāvas of the father and the rest are joined with their respective kārakas, and are also joined with the lord of wounds (the sixth lord), and are placed in the sixth or the eighth —

BPHS Adhyāya 18, śloka 3

Śloka 4 — Site of the wound by graha — Sun, Moon, Mars, Mercury

— then for those relations too a wound is to be declared. By the Sun, a wound on the head; by the Moon, on the mouth (face); by Mars, on the throat; by Mercury, at the navel.

BPHS Adhyāya 18, śloka 4

Śloka 5 — Site of the wound by graha — Jupiter, Venus, Saturn, Rāhu, Ketu

By Jupiter, [a wound] on the nose; by Venus (Bhṛgu), on the eye; on the foot by [Saturn — the plate prints śaśinā, 'by the Moon']; by Rāhu, in the belly, and by Ketu likewise.

BPHS Adhyāya 18, śloka 5

Śloka 6 — Disease of the mouth from the lagna lord in Mars'/Mercury's sign

If the lord of the lagna is placed in a sign of Mars or in a sign of Mercury — wherever it may stand — and is aspected by Mercury, it gives disease of the mouth.

BPHS Adhyāya 18, śloka 6

Śloka 7 — Kuṣṭha yoga — lagna lord with Mars, Mercury, Moon, Rāhu, Saturn

If the lord of the lagna [together with] Mars and Mercury are joined with the Moon, along with Rāhu and Saturn, kuṣṭha (leprous skin disease) is to be declared thereby.

BPHS Adhyāya 18, śloka 7

Śloka 8 — White and black kuṣṭha — Moon in lagna with Rāhu / Saturn

If the Moon, without the lord of the lagna, stands in the lagna together with Tamas (Rāhu), then white kuṣṭha; and together with Saturn, black kuṣṭha.

BPHS Adhyāya 18, śloka 8

Śloka 9 — Red kuṣṭha (Mars); 6th and 8th lords in lagna with the Sun

With Mars there would be red kuṣṭha; each such case is to be considered in this way. If the lords of the sixth and the eighth are in the lagna joined with the Sun —

BPHS Adhyāya 18, śloka 9

Śloka 10 — Fever-boil; Mars, Mercury, Jupiter joining the 6th/8th lords

— [there is] fever with a boil. With Mars, a tumour (granthi), or else a wound from a weapon; with Mercury, a pitta disorder; with Jupiter one should declare absence of disease.

BPHS Adhyāya 18, śloka 10

Śloka 11 — Venus, Saturn, Rāhu, Ketu joining the 6th/8th lords

With Venus, [the disease arises] through women; if joined with Saturn, through wind (vāta); through the Cāṇḍāla (Rāhu), a boil at the navel; but with Ketu, fear in the home.

BPHS Adhyāya 18, śloka 11

Śloka 12 — Moon joining; extension of the method to the other bhāvas

With the Moon, a boil arising from watery causes, from kapha, phlegm and the like. In this manner, [the same reasoning applies] up to the bhāvas of the father and the rest, according to the conjunction with the respective kārakas —

BPHS Adhyāya 18, śloka 12

Śloka 13 — Close of the gaṇḍa rule; constant disease — malefic in the 6th

— a boil likewise befalls those relations; this is to be inferred by the wise. When a malefic occupies the house of disease (the sixth) and its lord is joined with a malefic, —

BPHS Adhyāya 18, śloka 13

Śloka 14 — Constant disease (concl.); fever yoga — Mars in the 6th

BPHS Adhyāya 18, śloka 15

Śloka 16 — Kuṣṭha year; consumption yoga — Rāhu in the 6th, Gulika in a kendra

— kuṣṭha is to be declared in the twenty-second or the nineteenth year. When Rāhu has gone to the house of disease and Māndi (Gulika) is placed in a kendra, —

BPHS Adhyāya 18, śloka 16

Śloka 17 — Consumption in year 26; gulma yoga — 12th and 6th lords exchanged

— and the lord of the lagna stands in the sign of destruction (the eighth), there is consumption (kṣaya) in the twenty-sixth year. When the lord of the twelfth stands in the sign of disease (the sixth) and its lord (the sixth lord) is in the sign of the twelfth, —
