Śloka 1 — Announcement of the tryanya-janma doṣa: a daughter born after three sons, or a son after three daughters
अथ वच्मि त्र्यन्यजन्म-दोषशान्तिविधिं मुने । सुतत्रयात् परं कन्या-जन्म वा कन्यकात्रयात् ॥ १ ॥
Now, O Muni [Maitreya], I declare the procedure of pacification for the doṣa of a tryanya birth — namely, the birth of a daughter after three sons, or, after three daughters …

Śloka 2 — The ariṣṭa falls on both lineages; worship of the grahas and of Brahmā, Viṣṇu, Rudra
अनन्तरं पुत्रजन्म तदाऽरिष्टं कुलद्वये । एवं सति ग्रहान् ब्रह्म-विष्णुरुद्रांश्च पूजयेत् ॥ २ ॥
… thereafter the birth of a son — then there is ariṣṭa (calamity) for both families. This being the case, one should worship the grahas, and Brahmā, Viṣṇu and Rudra.

Śloka 3 — The wise man performs the śānti as prescribed; worship of the grahas at the end of the birth-impurity period or on an auspicious day
यथोक्तेन विधानेन शान्तिं कुर्याद् विचक्षणः । सूतकान्ते शुभे वाऽह्नि ग्रहाणां यजनं ततः ॥ ३ ॥
The discerning man should perform the śānti by the procedure already stated. Then, at the close of the sūtaka (birth-impurity) period, or on an auspicious day, the worship of the grahas [is to be done].

Śloka 4 — Selection of ṛtvijas and ācārya; golden images of Brahmā, Indra, Viṣṇu and Rudra
ऋत्विजां वरणं तद्व-दाचार्यस्य च कारयेत् । ब्रह्मेन्द्रविष्णुरुद्राणा-माकृतीः स्वर्णनिर्मिताः ॥ ४ ॥
Likewise he should have the ṛtvijas formally chosen, and the ācārya also. Images of Brahmā, Indra, Viṣṇu and Rudra, wrought of gold …

Śloka 5 — Placing the images on vessels atop the jars and worshipping them with the standard upacāras
कलशाग्रस्थपात्रेषु यथापूर्वं समर्चयेत् । गन्धपुष्पाक्षतैर्धूप-दीपनैवेद्यवारिभिः ॥ ५ ॥
… he should worship, as before, in the vessels set upon the mouths of the jars, with sandal-paste, flowers and unbroken rice-grains, with incense, lamp, food-offering and water.

Śloka 6 — Recitation of the Śānti-sūktas and Raudra sūktas by a single pure brahmin
शान्तिसूक्तानि रौद्राणि सूक्तानि च जपेच्छुचिः । विप्र एकस्तु नियतः सर्वविघ्नोपशान्तये ॥ ६ ॥
One pure brahmin, of controlled conduct, should recite the Śānti-sūktas and the Raudra sūktas, for the pacification of every obstacle.

Śloka 7 — Homa with fuel-sticks, sesame, ghee and caru — 108 or 1008 oblations
समित्तिलाज्यांश्च चरु-माचार्यो जुहुयाच्छतम् । सहस्रं वा समिद्धेऽग्ना-वष्टाभिरधिकं मुने ! ॥ ७ ॥
The ācārya should offer fuel-sticks, sesame, clarified butter and caru into the kindled fire a hundred times, or a thousand times, with eight more added, O Muni [Maitreya]!

Śloka 8 — Homa with each deity's own gṛhya mantras; bali, sviṣṭakṛt and pūrṇāhuti
स्वस्वगृह्योदितैर्मन्त्रै-श्चतुर्देवप्रसादकैः । बलिं, स्विष्टकृतं चापि हुत्वा पूर्णाहुतिं चरेत् ॥ ८ ॥
[The offerings are made] with the mantras stated in one's own gṛhya[-sūtra], which propitiate the four deities; and having offered the bali and the sviṣṭakṛt oblation as well, he should perform the pūrṇāhuti.

Śloka 9 — Abhiṣeka of the couple and the newborn; feeding of brahmins; dakṣiṇā to the ṛtvijas
आचार्यो दम्पतीजात-मपि सिञ्चेद् घटोदकैः । विप्राणां भोजनं चैव-मृत्विजां दक्षिणां चरेत् ॥ ९ ॥
The ācārya should sprinkle the couple and the newborn child too with the water of the jars; and thus [the yajamāna] should carry out the feeding of the brahmins and the dakṣiṇā for the ṛtvijas.

Śloka 10 — Special honouring of the ācārya with gold and cattle; result — the ariṣṭa is quelled
यजमानो विशेषेणा-ऽभ्यर्चयेत् स्वर्णगोधनैः । आचार्यं सर्वतश्चैवं शान्त्यादरिष्टं प्रशाम्यति ॥ १० ॥
The yajamāna should especially honour the ācārya with gold, cows and wealth, in every respect; and thus, by this śānti, the ariṣṭa is quelled.
