The complete Chapter on the Results of the Second (Wealth) Bhāva chapter of the Bṛhat-Pārāśara-Horāśāstra — all 14 verses, each in the original Sanskrit with VedicSpace's clean-room English translation, cited by śloka. Translated from the Chaukhamba (Devachandra Jha) edition and audited against the printed plates.
Śloka 1 — Transition — Parāśara announces the second bhāva (wealth)
O Maitreya! You have heard the results pertaining to the tanu-bhāva (first house). Now I shall declare those pertaining to the dhana-bhāva (second house); listen with a composed mind.
BPHS Adhyāya 14, śloka 1
Śloka 2 — 2nd lord in the 2nd, a kendra or a koṇa — wealth and grain
When the lord of wealth (the 2nd lord) is placed in the dhana-bhāva itself, or in a kendra, or in a trikoṇa, the native is born possessed of wealth and grain — there is no doubt in this.
BPHS Adhyāya 14, śloka 2
Śloka 3 — 2nd lord in 6/8/12; benefic vs. malefic occupying the 2nd
But if he (the 2nd lord) is in the 6th, the 8th or the 12th, he becomes a destroyer of wealth. A benefic in the artha (2nd) house is to be known as a giver of wealth, while a malefic there is a destroyer of wealth.
BPHS Adhyāya 14, śloka 3
Śloka 4 — Jupiter as 2nd lord in the 2nd, or joined by Mars
If the lord of wealth is Jupiter and he stands in the wealth-house, or else is joined with Mars, that man becomes wealthy.
BPHS Adhyāya 14, śloka 4
Śloka 5 — Exchange / mutual strength of the 2nd and 11th lords
When the lord of the 2nd is in the sign of gain (the 11th), or the lord of the 11th has gone to the 2nd — or when those two are both in kendras or placed in koṇas — the man is wealthy.
BPHS Adhyāya 14, śloka 5
Śloka 6 — 2nd lord in kendra, 11th lord in trine to it, aspected/joined by Jupiter or Venus
When the lord of the 2nd occupies a kendra sign and the lord of the 11th is in a trine from it, and they are conjoined with or aspected by Jupiter and Venus, one should declare gain of wealth.
BPHS Adhyāya 14, śloka 6
Śloka 7 — 2nd and 11th lords together in the 6th, afflicted by malefics — poverty
When the lord of wealth is in the enemy-bhāva (the 6th) and the lord of gain has likewise gone there, and the wealth-house and the gain-house are conjoined with or aspected by malefics, that man is destitute indeed.
BPHS Adhyāya 14, śloka 7
Śloka 8 — 2nd and 12th lords combust and with malefics — lifelong poverty
And when the lords of the wealth-house and of the house of gain have gone to combustion and are joined with malefic grahas, the man has poverty from birth onwards and gets his food by begging.
BPHS Adhyāya 14, śloka 8
Śloka 9 — 2nd and 11th lords in 6/8/12, Mars in 11th, Rāhu in 2nd — royal punishment
Likewise, when the lords of wealth and of gain have gone to the 6th, the 8th or the 12th, and Mars is in the house of gain while Rāhu is in the house of wealth, there is destruction of wealth through royal punishment.
BPHS Adhyāya 14, śloka 9
Śloka 10 — Jupiter in 11th, Venus in 2nd, benefics on 2nd lord and 12th — dharmic spending
When Jupiter is in the house of gain, Venus in the house of wealth, the lord of wealth is joined with benefics, and the 12th house too is occupied by benefic grahas, the native's expenditure of wealth is rooted in dharma.
BPHS Adhyāya 14, śloka 10
Śloka 11 — 2nd lord in deep exaltation or own house, aspected by Jupiter — fame
When the lord of wealth stands in (deep) exaltation, or else has resorted to his own bhavana (svakṣetra), and is aspected by Jupiter, the native is renowned and dear to all people.
BPHS Adhyāya 14, śloka 11
Śloka 12 — 2nd lord with benefics in pārāvata and similar vargas — varied wealth
When the lord of wealth, joined with benefics, is placed in the pārāvata and similar (auspicious) varga divisions, wealth-possessions of many kinds come of themselves into his house.
BPHS Adhyāya 14, śloka 12
Śloka 13 — Strength of the 2nd (eye) lord — beautiful eyes vs. eye defect
When the lord of the eye (the 2nd lord) is endowed with strength, the man has beautiful eyes; when he has gone to the 6th, the 8th or the 12th, one should declare a defect in the eye.
BPHS Adhyāya 14, śloka 13
Śloka 14 — 2nd lord and 2nd house afflicted by malefics — false speech, slander, vāta disease
When the lord of wealth is joined with malefics and the wealth-house too is occupied by malefics, the native becomes a speaker of untruth, a slanderer, and afflicted by diseases of vāta.
