अथ चतुर्थ (सुख) भावफलाध्यायः

Śloka 1 — Transition: Parāśara turns from the 3rd bhāva to the 4th (mātṛ / sukha) bhāva
मैत्रेय ! ते निगदितं भ्रातृभावगतं फलम् । अधुना कथ्यते मातृभावजं तन्मुने शृणु ॥ १ ॥
O Maitreya! The result pertaining to the bhrātṛ-bhāva (the third) has been declared to you. Now the result arising from the mātṛ-bhāva (the fourth) is being told — hear it, O sage.

Śloka 2 — 4th lord or lagna lord in the 4th, with benefic association — full domestic happiness
बन्धुभावगते बन्धुनाथे वा तत्र लग्नपे । सौम्यखेटेक्षितयुते पूर्णगेहसुखं भवेत् ॥ २ ॥
When the lord of the bandhu-bhāva (the fourth) is placed in the bandhu-bhāva, or when the lagna lord is there, and that bhāva is aspected by or conjoined with benefic grahas, there will be complete happiness of home.

Śloka 3 — 4th lord in svakṣetra / own aṃśa / ucca — house, land, vehicles, mother, music
स्वर्क्षांशतुङ्गगे तुर्यनाथे सुखमनुत्तमम् । गृहभूयानमात्रादिजातं वाद्यादिजं तथा ॥ ३ ॥
When the lord of the fourth (turya) occupies its own rāśi, its own aṃśa, or its ucca, there is unsurpassed happiness — happiness born of house, land, vehicles, mother and the like, and likewise that born of musical instruments and so forth.

Śloka 4 — 4th and 10th lords together in a kendra or koṇa — royal residence
तुर्यकर्मेशयोः केन्द्रे त्रिकोणे वा सहस्थितौ । राजार्हं सदने वासो जातकस्य भवेद्ध्रुवम् ॥ ४ ॥
When the lords of the fourth and of the tenth (karma) stand together in a kendra or in a trikoṇa, the native's dwelling will certainly be in a residence fit for a king.

Śloka 5 — Benefic 4th lord well-associated + Budha in lagna — honoured by kinsmen
तुर्यनाथे सौम्यखेटे शुभैर्युक्तेऽथवेक्षिते । लग्नगे शशिजे जातो बन्धुपूज्यो भवेत्सदा ॥ ५ ॥
When the lord of the fourth is a benefic graha and is conjoined with or aspected by benefics, and Budha (the Moon's son) is in the lagna, the one born becomes ever honoured by his kinsmen.

Śloka 6 — Longevity of the mother from the 4th bhāva, its lord and the kāraka
मातुः स्थाने शुभयुते तदीशे स्वोच्चराशिगे । कारके बलसंयुक्ते मातुर्दीर्घायुरादिशेत् ॥ ६ ॥
When the mother's house (the fourth) is conjoined with benefics, its lord occupies its own ucca rāśi, and the kāraka is endowed with strength, one should declare long life for the mother.

Śloka 7 — 4th lord and Śukra in kendras + exalted Budha — happiness of vehicles
सुखेशे केन्द्रभावस्थे तथा केन्द्रे स्थिते भृगौ । शशिजे चोच्चराशिस्थे यानसौख्यं वदेद्बुधः ॥ ७ ॥
When the lord of the fourth (sukha) stands in a kendra bhāva, and Śukra likewise stands in a kendra, and Budha occupies its ucca rāśi, the wise man should declare happiness of vehicles.

Śloka 8 — Śani+Ravi in 4th, Candra in 9th, Bhauma in 11th — gain of cattle
सुखे मन्दो रवियुतश्चन्द्रो भाग्यगतो यदि । लाभस्थानगतो भौमो गोमहिष्यादिलाभकृत् ॥ ८ ॥
If Śani, joined with Ravi, is in the fourth (sukha), the Moon has gone to the ninth (bhāgya), and Bhauma is placed in the eleventh (lābha) — that produces gain of cows, buffaloes and the like.

Śloka 9 — Cara 4th, its lord with Maṅgala in 6th/12th — muteness
सुखे चरगृहासक्ते तथा तद्राशिनायके । सभौमे व्ययषष्ठस्थे मूकत्वं याति मानवः ॥ ९ ॥
When the fourth (sukha) is bound up with a movable (cara) sign, and likewise its rāśi lord, accompanied by Bhauma, stands in the twelfth or the sixth, the person becomes mute.

Śloka 10 — Setup for the 12th-year vehicle yoga: benefic lagna lord, debilitated 4th lord, kāraka in 12th, 4th lord with the 11th
लग्नस्थानाधिपे सौम्ये सुखेशे नीचराशिगे । कारके व्ययभावस्थे सुखेशे लाभसंयुते ॥ १० ॥
When the lord of the lagna is a benefic, the lord of the fourth (sukha) occupies a nīca rāśi, the kāraka stands in the twelfth (vyaya) bhāva, and the lord of the fourth is joined with the eleventh (lābha) —

Śloka 11 — Vehicle happiness in the 12th year; and setup for the 32nd-year vehicle yoga
द्वादशे वत्सरे प्राप्ते वाहनस्य सुखं वदेत् । वाहने रविसंयुक्ते स्वोच्चे तद्राशिनायके ॥ ११ ॥
— then, when the twelfth year is reached, one should declare happiness of a vehicle. When the vehicle-house (the fourth) is joined with Ravi, and its rāśi lord is in its own ucca,

Śloka 12 — Vehicle obtained in the 32nd year; and setup for the 42nd-year vehicle yoga
युते शुक्रेण यानाप्तिर्द्वात्रिंशे वत्सरे भवेत् । कर्मेशेन युते बन्धुनाथे तुङ्गांशसंयुते ॥ १२ ॥
— and joined with Śukra, then the obtaining of a conveyance occurs in the thirty-second year. When the lord of the bandhu-bhāva (the fourth) is joined with the lord of the tenth (karma) and is placed in its ucca aṃśa,

Śloka 13 — Vehicle in the 42nd year; and setup for a further 12th-year vehicle yoga
द्विचत्वारिंशके वर्षे नरो वाहनभाग्भवेत् । लाभेशे सुखराशिस्थे सुखेशे लाभसंयुते ॥ १३ ॥
— then in the forty-second year the man becomes possessed of a vehicle. When the lord of the eleventh (lābha) stands in the rāśi of the fourth (sukha), and the lord of the fourth is joined with the eleventh,

Śloka 14 — Vehicle in the 12th year; and the closing general maxim on bhāva strength
द्वादशे वत्सरे प्राप्ते मानवो यानभाग्भवेत् । शुभं भावस्य संपुष्टौ दुर्बलत्वेऽन्यथा फलम् ॥ १४ ॥
— then, when the twelfth year is reached, the man becomes possessed of a conveyance. When a bhāva is fully nourished, the result is auspicious; when it is weak, the result is otherwise.
