Śloka 1 — Lagna-lord in the 1st bhāva
लग्नेशे लग्नगे हृष्ट-पुष्टाङ्गश्च पराक्रमी। मनस्वी चातिचपलो द्विभार्यः परगोऽपि च॥ १॥
When the lord of the lagna is placed in the lagna, the native is of cheerful and well-nourished limbs and valorous; he is high-minded and exceedingly fickle, has two wives, and goes to another's (wife).

Śloka 2 — Lagna-lord in the 2nd bhāva
लग्नेशे धनगे विज्ञो लाभसौख्यान्वितोऽनिशम्। सुशीलो धर्मविन्मानी बहुभार्यो गुणैर्युतः॥ २॥
When the lord of the lagna is in the wealth-bhāva (2nd), the native is discerning, unceasingly possessed of gain and comfort, of good conduct, a knower of dharma, self-respecting, having many wives, and endowed with virtues.

Śloka 3 — Lagna-lord in the 3rd bhāva
लग्नेशे सहजे याते सिंहतुल्य-पराक्रमी। सर्वसम्पद्युतो मानी द्विभार्यो मतिमान्नरः॥ ३॥
When the lord of the lagna has gone to the sahaja (3rd) bhāva, the man has valour equal to a lion's; he is furnished with every kind of prosperity, self-respecting, has two wives, and is intelligent.

Śloka 4 — Lagna-lord in the 4th bhāva
लग्नेशे तुर्यगे जातो मातृसौख्य-समन्वितः। बहुभ्रातृयुतः कामी गुणसौन्दर्यसंयुतः॥ ४॥
When the lord of the lagna is in the fourth, the native is endowed with the happiness of a mother, has many brothers, is amorous, and is possessed of virtue and beauty.

Śloka 5 — Lagna-lord in the 5th bhāva
लग्नेशे पुत्रगे क्रोधी सुतसौख्यं च मध्यमम्। प्रथमापत्यनाशः स्यान्मानवान् राजवल्लभः॥ ५॥
When the lord of the lagna is in the son-bhāva (5th), the native is prone to anger and the happiness from sons is middling; there will be loss of the first child; he is honoured and a favourite of the king.

Śloka 6 — Lagna-lord in the 6th bhāva with pāpa association
लग्नाधिपेऽरिगे पापग्रहयुक्तेक्षितेऽपि वा। शत्रोः पीडा भवेत्तस्य कष्टं शारीरिकं तथा॥ ६॥
When the lord of the lagna is in the enemy-bhāva (6th), and is moreover joined to or aspected by a pāpa graha, there will be affliction to him from an enemy, and bodily distress likewise.

Śloka 7 — Lagna-lord (cruel) in the 7th bhāva
लग्नेशे सप्तमे क्रूरे भार्या तस्य न जीवति। विरक्तो वा प्रवासी वा दरिद्रो वा नृपोऽपि वा॥ ७॥
When a cruel lord of the lagna is in the seventh, his wife does not survive; and he becomes either detached from the world, or a wanderer abroad, or destitute, or else even a king.

Śloka 8 — Lagna-lord in the 8th bhāva
लग्नेशेऽष्टमभावस्थे सिद्धविद्यो गदाकुलः। परनारीरतश्चौरो द्यूतासक्तोऽतिकोपनः॥ ८॥
When the lord of the lagna stands in the eighth bhāva, the native is accomplished in occult lore but harassed by disease; he is attached to other men's women, a thief, addicted to gambling, and exceedingly irascible.

Śloka 9 — Lagna-lord in the 9th bhāva
लग्नेशे नवमे याते भाग्यवाञ्जनवल्लभः। विष्णुभक्तः पटुर्वाग्मी पुत्रदारधनैर्युतः॥ ९॥
When the lord of the lagna has gone to the ninth, the native is fortunate and dear to people, devoted to Viṣṇu, capable, eloquent, and furnished with sons, wife and wealth.

Śloka 10 — Lagna-lord in the 10th bhāva
लग्नेशे कर्मगे राज-पूज्यस्तातसुखान्वितः। निजोपार्जितवित्तोऽतिप्रसिद्धः पुरुषो भवेत्॥ १०॥
When the lord of the lagna is in the karma-bhāva (10th), he is honoured by the king and endowed with the happiness of a father; the man has wealth earned by himself and becomes exceedingly renowned.

Śloka 11 — Lagna-lord in the 11th bhāva
लग्नेशे लाभभावस्थे बहुलाभान्वितो जनः। सद्यशोगुणशीलाढ्यो बहुदारः प्रजायते॥ ११॥
When the lord of the lagna stands in the gain-bhāva (11th), the person is possessed of abundant gains; he is born rich in good fame, virtue and character, and has many wives.

Śloka 12 — Lagna-lord in the 12th bhāva
लग्नेशे व्ययगे जातस्तनुसौख्यसमुज्झितः। निरर्थव्ययकृत् क्रोधी, न युक्ते नेक्षिते शुभैः॥ १२॥
When the lord of the lagna is in the expenditure-bhāva (12th), the native is deprived of bodily comfort; he makes purposeless expenditure and is angry — this when it is neither joined to nor aspected by benefics.

Śloka 13 — 2nd-lord (dhaneśa) in the 1st bhāva
धनेशे तनुगे कामी परकार्यरतो धनी। कण्टकः स्वकुटुम्बस्य निष्ठुरः पुत्रवान् जनः॥ १३॥
When the lord of wealth (2nd) is in the body-bhāva (1st), the person is amorous, busied with other people's affairs, wealthy, a thorn to his own family, harsh, and possessed of sons.

Śloka 14 — 2nd-lord in the 2nd bhāva
धनेशे धनगे बालो धनवान् गर्वसंयुतः। द्विदारो वा त्रिदारो वा सुतहीनः प्रजायते॥ १४॥
When the lord of wealth is in the wealth-bhāva, the person is — even from boyhood — wealthy and filled with pride; he has two wives or three wives, and is born without sons.

Śloka 15 — 2nd-lord in the 3rd bhāva
धनेशे सहजस्थे तु विक्रमी मतिमान् गुणी। लोलुपः कामुकः पापयुक्ते स्याद्देवनिन्दकः॥ १५॥
But when the lord of wealth stands in the third, he is valorous, intelligent and virtuous, yet greedy and lustful; and if it is joined by a pāpa graha he becomes a reviler of the gods.

Śloka 16 — 2nd-lord in the 4th bhāva
धनेशे तुर्यगे नानाविध-सम्पत्तिसंयुतः। सगुरौ सभृगौ वापि तुङ्गस्थे राजसन्निभः॥ १६॥
When the lord of wealth is in the fourth, he is furnished with wealth of many kinds; and if it is with Guru or with Bhṛgu (Śukra), or is placed in its ucca, he is like unto a king.

Śloka 17 — 2nd-lord in the 5th bhāva
धनाधिपे तु सूनुस्थे सदार्थार्जनतत्परैः। सूनुभिः स्वैर्युतो जातो जायते धनवानपि॥ १७॥
But when the lord of wealth stands in the son-bhāva (5th), the native is provided with his own sons who are always intent on earning wealth, and he too becomes wealthy.

Śloka 18 — 2nd-lord in the 6th bhāva
धनेशे रिपुगे सौम्य-युते शत्रोर्धनागमः। पापोपेतेऽर्थहानिः स्याद्गुदे चोर्वोर्भवेच्च रुक्॥ १८॥
When the lord of wealth is in the enemy-bhāva (the 6th) and is joined by a benefic, wealth comes in from an enemy; when it is attended by a pāpa graha there is loss of wealth, and disease arises in the anus and the thighs.

Śloka 19 — 2nd-lord in the 7th bhāva afflicted
धनेशे सप्तमे पापर्युते दृष्टे जनो भिषक्। परदाररतस्तस्य जाया च व्यभिचारिणी॥ १९॥
When the lord of wealth is in the seventh and is joined or aspected by pāpa grahas, the person is a physician; he is attached to other men's wives, and his own wife is unfaithful.

Śloka 20 — 2nd-lord in the 8th bhāva
धनेशे मृत्युभावस्थे भूमिद्रव्यान्वितो जनः। जायासौख्यं भवेदल्पं ज्येष्ठभ्रातृसुखं नहि॥ २०॥
When the lord of wealth stands in the death-bhāva (8th), the person is endowed with land and goods; happiness from the wife will be scant, and there is no happiness from an elder brother.

Śloka 21 — 2nd-lord in the 9th bhāva
धनेशे भाग्यगे जातो धनवानुद्यमी पटुः। बाल्ये रोगी सुखी पश्चाद् यावदायुः समाप्यते॥ २१॥
When the lord of wealth is in the fortune-bhāva (9th), the native is wealthy, enterprising and skilful; he is ill in childhood, and thereafter happy until his life is completed.

Śloka 22 — 2nd-lord in the 10th bhāva
धनेशे दशमे यस्य कामी मानी स पण्डितः। बहुदारधनैर्युक्तः पुत्रसौख्यविवर्जितः॥ २२॥
He in whose chart the lord of wealth is in the tenth is amorous, self-respecting and learned; he is furnished with many wives and much wealth, but is deprived of the happiness of sons.

Śloka 23 — 2nd-lord in the 11th bhāva
धनेशे लाभगे जातः सर्वदोद्योगतत्परः। यशस्वी मानसंयुक्तो भवेल्लाभान्वितः सदा॥ २३॥
When the lord of wealth is in the gain-bhāva (11th), the native is always intent upon industry; he becomes famous, possessed of honour, and constantly attended by gain.

Śloka 24 — 2nd-lord in the 12th bhāva
धनेशे व्ययगे जातो मानसाहससंयुतः। पराश्रयी भवेज्ज्येष्ठ-सूनुसौख्यसमुज्झितः॥ २४॥
When the lord of wealth is in the expenditure-bhāva (12th), the native is possessed of pride and daring; he becomes dependent on others and is deprived of the happiness of an eldest son.

Śloka 25 — 3rd-lord in the 1st bhāva
तनुस्थिते तृतीयेशे पुरुषार्थपरोऽर्थवान्। अविद्यः किन्तु मतिमाञ्जायते साहसी नरः॥ २५॥
When the lord of the third stands in the body-bhāva (1st), the man is devoted to manly effort and possessed of wealth; he is unlettered yet intelligent, and is born daring.

Śloka 26 — 3rd-lord in the 2nd bhāva
धनस्थे सहजेशे तु परदारार्थलोलुपः। निर्विक्रमो जनः स्थूलः स्वल्पारम्भी न सौख्यभाक्॥ २६॥
But when the lord of the third stands in the wealth-bhāva (2nd), the person is covetous of another's wife and another's wealth; he is without prowess, corpulent, undertakes only trifling ventures, and does not partake of happiness.

Śloka 27 — 3rd-lord in the 3rd bhāva
तृतीयस्थे तृतीयेशे विक्रमी भ्रातृसौख्ययुक्। धनपुत्रान्वितो हृष्टो भुनक्ति सुखमद्भुतम्॥ २७॥
When the lord of the third stands in the third, he is valorous and enjoys the happiness of brothers; endowed with wealth and sons, and cheerful, he enjoys wondrous happiness.

Śloka 28 — 3rd-lord in the 4th bhāva
तृतीयेशे सुखस्थे तु सुखी भवति मानवः। अतिक्रूरा तस्य भार्या धनाढ्यो मतिमान् स्वयम्॥ २८॥
But when the lord of the third stands in the happiness-bhāva (4th), the man becomes happy; his wife is exceedingly cruel, while he himself is rich in wealth and intelligent.

Śloka 29 — 3rd-lord in the 5th bhāva
तृतीयेशे सुतस्थे तु जातः सुतयुतो गुणी। पापेक्षित-युते क्रूरा भार्या तस्य प्रजायते॥ २९॥
But when the lord of the third stands in the son-bhāva (5th), the native has sons and is virtuous; when it is aspected by or joined to a pāpa graha, his wife turns out cruel.

Śloka 30 — 3rd-lord in the 6th bhāva
तृतीयेशे रिपौ याते भ्रातृशत्रुर्महाधनी। मातुलानां सुखं न स्यान्मातुल्या भोगमिच्छति॥ ३०॥
When the lord of the third has gone to the enemy-bhāva (6th), he is an enemy to his brothers and very wealthy; there is no happiness from maternal uncles, and he desires enjoyment with his maternal uncle's wife.

Śloka 31 — 3rd-lord in the 7th bhāva
तृतीयेशे सप्तमस्थे बाल्ये कष्टयतः सदा। पश्चात् सौख्यं च लभते नृपानुगमने रतः॥ ३१॥
When the lord of the third stands in the seventh, he is always in distress during childhood; afterwards he obtains happiness, being devoted to attendance upon a king.

Śloka 32 — 3rd-lord in the 8th bhāva
तृतीयेशेऽष्टमस्थे तु जातः स्यात् स्तेनकर्मकृत्। सेवावृत्तिपरश्चान्ते नृपालान्मृत्युमादिशेत्॥ ३२॥
But when the lord of the third stands in the eighth, the native becomes a doer of thievish deeds; being given over to a life of service, one should declare that at the end his death comes from the ruler.

Śloka 33 — 3rd-lord in the 9th bhāva
तृतीयेशे तु नवमे स्त्रीभिर्भाग्योदयो भवेत्। पितृसौख्योज्झितो जातः किन्तु पुत्रादिसौख्यभाक्॥ ३३॥
But when the lord of the third is in the ninth, the rise of fortune comes through women; the native is bereft of the happiness of a father, yet he partakes of the happiness of sons and the rest.

Śloka 34 — 3rd-lord in the 10th bhāva
तृतीयेशे तु कर्मस्थे बाहूपार्जितवित्तवान्। दुष्टस्त्रीपोषणे सक्तो नानासौख्ययुतो नरः॥ ३४॥
But when the lord of the third stands in the karma-bhāva (10th), the man has wealth earned by the strength of his own arms; he is attached to maintaining a wicked woman, and is possessed of manifold comforts.

Śloka 35 — 3rd-lord in the 11th bhāva
तृतीयेशे तु लाभस्थे स्वभुजार्जितवित्तवान्। मूर्खः कृशो महारोगी साहसी परसेवकः॥ ३५॥
But when the lord of the third stands in the gain-bhāva (11th), he has wealth earned by his own arm; he is dull-witted, lean, gravely diseased, daring, and a servant of others.

Śloka 36 — 3rd-lord in the 12th bhāva
तृतीयेशे व्ययस्थे तु व्ययकृद् दुष्कृतौ जनः। तत्पिता क्रूरचेताः स्यात् स्त्रीभिर्भाग्योदयो भवेत्॥ ३६॥
But when the lord of the third stands in the expenditure-bhāva (12th), the person spends upon evil deeds; his father is cruel of mind, and the rise of his fortune comes through women.

Śloka 37 — 4th-lord (sukheśa) in the 1st bhāva
तुर्येशे तनुभावस्थे जननीसौख्यसंयुतः। विद्यासद्गुणसम्पन्नो भूमिवाहनवान्नरः॥ ३७॥
When the lord of the fourth stands in the body-bhāva (1st), he is endowed with the happiness of a mother; the man is furnished with learning and good qualities, and possesses land and conveyances.

Śloka 38 — 4th-lord in the 2nd bhāva
तुर्येशे तु द्वितीयस्थे नानासम्पत्समन्वितः। कुटुम्बी साहसी मानी भोगी च कुहकान्वितः॥ ३८॥
But when the lord of the fourth stands in the second, he is furnished with prosperity of every kind; he is a family man, daring, self-respecting, given to enjoyment, and possessed of guile.

Śloka 39 — 4th-lord in the 3rd bhāva
तुर्येशे सहजस्थे तु स्वभुजार्जितवित्तवान्। उदारो गुणवान् दाता दासयुक्तः पराक्रमी॥ ३९॥
But when the lord of the fourth stands in the third, he has wealth earned by his own arm; he is generous, virtuous, a giver, provided with servants, and valorous.

Śloka 40 — 4th-lord in the 4th bhāva
तुर्येशे तु तुरीयस्थे मन्त्री सर्वधनाधिपः। चतुरः शीलवान् मानी सुविज्ञः स्त्रीप्रियः सुखी॥ ४०॥
But when the lord of the fourth stands in the fourth, he becomes a minister and master of all wealth; he is clever, of good character, self-respecting, well-informed, dear to women, and happy.

Śloka 41 — 4th-lord in the 5th bhāva
तुर्येशे सुतभावस्थे सुखी सर्वजनप्रियः। विष्णुभक्तिरतो मानी स्वभुजार्जितवित्तवान्॥ ४१॥
When the lord of the fourth stands in the son-bhāva (5th), he is happy and dear to all people, devoted to the worship of Viṣṇu, self-respecting, and possessed of wealth earned by his own arm.

Śloka 42 — 4th-lord in the 6th bhāva
तुर्येशे शत्रुभावस्थे हतमातृसुखो भवेत्। मनस्वी व्यभिचारी च चौरः क्रोधी दुरात्मवान्॥ ४२॥
When the lord of the fourth stands in the enemy-bhāva (6th), the happiness of a mother is destroyed; he is high-minded yet adulterous, a thief, angry, and of evil disposition.

Śloka 43 — 4th-lord in the 7th bhāva
तुर्येशे सप्तमगते बहुविद्यासमन्वितः। पित्रार्जितधनत्यागी सभायां मूकवद् भवेत्॥ ४३॥
When the lord of the fourth has gone to the seventh, he is furnished with much learning; he relinquishes the wealth earned by his father, and in an assembly he is as one dumb.

Śloka 44 — 4th-lord in the 8th bhāva
तुर्येशेऽष्टमगे जातो गेहादिसुखवञ्चितः। मातापित्रोः सुखं स्वल्पं क्लीबो वा जारजो भवेत्॥ ४४॥
When the lord of the fourth is in the eighth, the native is cheated of the comfort of a house and the like; the happiness of mother and father is scant, and he is either impotent or born of an adulterous union.

Śloka 45 — 4th-lord in the 9th bhāva
तुर्येशे भाग्यगे लोकप्रियोऽनेकसुखान्वितः। मानी गुणान्वितो विष्णुभक्तियुक्तो भवेन्नरः॥ ४५॥
When the lord of the fourth is in the fortune-bhāva (9th), the man becomes dear to the world and possessed of many comforts, self-respecting, endowed with virtues, and joined with devotion to Viṣṇu.

Śloka 46 — 4th-lord in the 10th bhāva
सुखेशे कर्मगेहस्थे राजमान्यो भवेन्नरः। रसायनी महाहृष्टो यतात्मा सुखसंयुतः॥ ४६॥
When the lord of happiness (4th) stands in the house of karma (10th), the man becomes honoured by the king; he is a knower of alchemy and elixirs, greatly cheerful, self-restrained, and possessed of happiness.

Śloka 47 — 4th-lord in the 11th bhāva
तुर्येशे लाभभावस्थे सदैवान्योपकारकः। उदारो गुणवान् दाता नित्यरोगी जनो भवेत्॥ ४७॥
When the lord of the fourth stands in the gain-bhāva (11th), he is always a benefactor of others; the person becomes generous, virtuous, a giver — and perpetually ill.

Śloka 48 — 4th-lord in the 12th bhāva
तुर्येशे व्ययगे हीनभवनादिसुखो नरः। मूर्खो दुर्व्यसनासक्तोऽलमश्चापि प्रजायते॥ ४८॥
When the lord of the fourth is in the expenditure-bhāva (12th), the man is deficient in the comfort of a dwelling and the like; he is born dull-witted, addicted to evil habits, and also indolent.

Śloka 49 — 5th-lord (suteśa) in the 1st bhāva
सुखेशे तनुगे सूरिरन्यवित्तापहारकः। कृपणः कुटिलश्चैव सुतसौख्यान्वितो जनः॥ ४९॥
When the lord (of the fifth) is in the body-bhāva (1st), the person is learned but a seizer of others' wealth; he is miserly and crooked, and endowed with the happiness of sons.

Śloka 50 — 5th-lord in the 2nd bhāva
सुतेशे धनगेऽनेक-सूनुर्धनयशोऽन्वितः। मानी स्त्रीवल्लभो जातः कुटुम्बपरिपालकः॥ ५०॥
When the lord of sons (5th) is in the wealth-bhāva (2nd), he has many sons and is possessed of wealth and fame; the native is self-respecting, dear to women, and a supporter of his family.

Śloka 51 — 5th-lord in the 3rd bhāva
सुतेशे तु तृतीयस्थे जातः स्याद् भ्रातृवल्लभः। मायावी पिशुनश्चैव कृपणः स्वार्थसाधकः॥ ५१॥
But when the lord of sons stands in the third, the native becomes dear to his brothers; he is deceitful, a slanderer, miserly, and one who accomplishes his own ends.

Śloka 52 — 5th-lord in the 4th bhāva
सुतेशे तुर्यगे जातो मातृसौख्यान्वितः सदा। लक्ष्मीयुक्तः सुबुद्धिश्च सचिवोऽप्यथवा गुरुः॥ ५२॥
When the lord of sons is in the fourth, the native is always endowed with the happiness of a mother; he is possessed of Lakṣmī (fortune) and of good understanding, and becomes either a counsellor or a preceptor.

Śloka 53 — 5th-lord in the 5th bhāva
सुतेशे सुतगे सौम्य-युक्ते जातः सुतान्वितः। सपापे सुतहीनोऽपि गुणयुक्तः सुहृत्प्रियः॥ ५३॥
When the lord of sons is in the son-bhāva and joined with a benefic, the native is endowed with sons; but when it is with a pāpa graha he is without sons, though virtuous and dear to friends.

Śloka 54 — 5th-lord in the 6th bhāva
सुतेशे शत्रुगृहगे सुतः शत्रुत्वमाप्नुयात्। मृतो वा दत्तकः किंवा क्रीतो वा तनयो भवेत्॥ ५४॥
When the lord of sons is in the house of enemies (6th), the son comes to enmity; or the son dies, or the son is an adopted one, or else one purchased.

When the lord of sons is in the kāma-bhāva (7th), the man is self-respecting and possessed of every duty of dharma; he is always intent on doing good to others, and enjoys the happiness of sons.

Born with the 7th lord gone to the riṣpha (12th) bhāva the man is poor and likewise miserly; he lives by cloth (the garment trade), and his beloved is given to extravagance.

But when the lord of the eighth is in the tanu (1st) bhāva, the native reviles the gods and the brāhmaṇas (the 'earth-gods'); the comfort of his body is destroyed, and he is perpetually beset with sores.

But with the eighth lord gone to the enemy-bhāva he becomes a conqueror of those who hate him; he is afflicted with illness in infancy, and he meets with danger from water and from serpents as well.

But with the eighth lord in the kāma (7th) bhāva he is joined with two wives; and should that lord be conjoined with a malefic, there is loss of wealth in business.

But with the eighth lord placed in the eighth itself the person becomes long-lived; if however that lord is devoid of strength, his life-span is middling, and he is a thief and a reviler of his teachers.

But with the eighth lord placed in the vyaya (12th) bhāva the man spends upon evil deeds; and when that lord is joined with a cruel graha he is, in a marked degree, of short life.

When the lord of fortune (9th) stands in the tanu bhāva, the person is endowed with beauty and good character, of fine intellect, honoured both by the ruler of men and by the people, and is born genuinely fortunate.

With the 9th lord gone to the house of enemies the person becomes bereft of fortune; he is constantly tormented by foes and deprived of the happiness of maternal uncle and the rest.

With the 9th lord gone to the riṣpha (12th) bhāva the native turns out bereft of fortune; through outlay on meritorious sacrifices he becomes destitute, being intent on the honouring of guests.

But with the lord of the tenth placed in the lagna the native is endowed with learning and good qualities; sickly in childhood, happy afterwards, and his wealth increases day by day.

दशमेशे तु वित्तस्थे नृपवन्द्यो गुणी धनी। तातादिसौख्यसम्पन्नो दाता जातस्तु जायते॥ ११० ॥
But with the tenth lord placed in the wealth-bhāva he is saluted by kings, full of merit and wealthy; the native is furnished with the happiness of father and the rest, and turns out a giver of gifts.

With the lord of gain (11th) in the tanu bhāva the person is a good speaker, wealthy and sāttvika; he is a composer of poetry, even-eyed towards all, and there is constant accrual of wealth.

This, O vipra (Maitreya), is what I have declared to you: the result that arises from the lords of the bhāvas. All of it is to be pronounced with discernment of strength and weakness.

For a sky-goer (graha) that is lord of two bhāvas, one should ascertain a twofold result; and when the two results are of equal weight but mutually opposed, the absence of both is to be declared.

But where the two results are of different kinds, the attainment of both is to be expected. When the graha has come to possess full strength, one should declare the result in full.

For a graha of half strength one should declare half the result, and for one of deficient strength a quarter. Thus has the result of the lords of the bhāvas, as placed in the bhāvas, been set forth.
