The complete The Yogas of Royal Patronage chapter of the Bṛhat-Pārāśara-Horāśāstra — all 16 verses, each in the original Sanskrit with VedicSpace's clean-room English translation, cited by śloka. Translated from the Chaukhamba (Devachandra Jha) edition and audited against the printed plates.

Śloka 41.10

When the kāraka (ātmakāraka), joined with a benefic, stands in the fifth, or in the seventh, or in the ninth or the tenth, there is wealth through connection with a king.

BPHS Adhyāya 41, śloka 41.10

Śloka 41.11

When the kāraka (ātmakāraka) has gone to the ninth, and the bhāgya-pada — the ārūḍha-pada of the ninth — is in the lagna, the native becomes attached to a king; in this yoga there is no doubt about it.

BPHS Adhyāya 41, śloka 41.11

Śloka 41.12

When the lord of the lagna stands in the house of gain (the eleventh) and is free from the aspect of malefics, and the kāraka is joined with a benefic, that person has gain from the king's palace.

BPHS Adhyāya 41, śloka 41.12

Śloka 41.13

When the lord of the lagna has gone to the karma-bhāva (the tenth) and the lord of the tenth likewise has gone to the lagna, this is declared to be, in a special degree, a yoga producing connection with a king.

BPHS Adhyāya 41, śloka 41.13

Śloka 41.14

O sage! the Moon and Venus, placed in the mātṛ-bhāva (the fourth) reckoned from the ātmakāraka, make the native endowed with the marks of royalty, like a king.

BPHS Adhyāya 41, śloka 41.14

Śloka 41.15

When the lord of the lagna — or else the ātmakāraka — is joined with the lord of the fifth and stands in a kendra or in a koṇa, the native becomes the friend of a king.

Now the chapter on the yogas of royal patronage (rāja-āśraya). Parāśara said:

BPHS Adhyāya 41, śloka 41.0 (heading + speaker line)

Śloka 41.1

When the lord of the rājya-bhāva (the 10th), reckoned from the birth-lagna, is conjoined with or aspected by the lord of the amātya-bhāva — or likewise by the amātya-kāraka — (the native attains) pre-eminence in the king's palace.

BPHS Adhyāya 41, śloka 41.1

Śloka 41.2

When the lābha-bhāva (the 11th) is aspected by the lord of the lagna and is free from the aspect or conjunction of malefics, pre-eminence arises in the royal palace and in one's own clan as well.

BPHS Adhyāya 41, śloka 41.2

Śloka 41.3

If (the ātma-kāraka) is joined also by the amātya-kāraka, the native, endowed with keen intellect, becomes a king's minister from his youth.

BPHS Adhyāya 41, śloka 41.3

Śloka 41.4

When the kāraka named amātya is rich in strength, accompanied by benefic grahas, and is situated in its own rāśi or in its exaltation, the native becomes a king's minister — of this there is no doubt.

BPHS Adhyāya 41, śloka 41.4

Śloka 41.5

O Muni, when the kāraka named amātya is placed in the tanu (1st), the nava (9th) or the tapas (5th) bhāva, the native becomes renowned and is assuredly a minister of the lord of the earth.

BPHS Adhyāya 41, śloka 41.5

Śloka 41.6

And when the amātya-kāraka occupies a kendra or a koṇa reckoned from the ātma-kāraka, the native is happy, is constantly a vessel of the king's grace, and lives under his patronage.

BPHS Adhyāya 41, śloka 41.6

Śloka 41.7

When all the malefic grahas stand in the vikrama (3rd) or the ripu (6th) counted from the ātma-kāraka, from the lagna, or from the pada, the native becomes a commander of armies.

BPHS Adhyāya 41, śloka 41.7

Śloka 41.8

When the kāraka, gone to its own rāśi or its exaltation, is placed in a kendra or a koṇa, and is conjoined with or aspected by the lord of the dharma-bhāva (the 9th), the man becomes a royal minister.

BPHS Adhyāya 41, śloka 41.8

Śloka 41.9

When the kāraka — himself the lord of the rāśi occupied by the Moon — stands in the lagna joined by a benefic, this is the chief yoga for ministership, (fructifying) in old age; herein there is no doubt.
