Śloka 42.16

Especially, the lords of the sūnu-bhāva (5th) and the bhāgya-bhāva (9th) are to be known as givers of wealth; and the grahas that are joined with those two also give wealth during their own daśās.

BPHS Adhyāya 42, śloka 42.16

Śloka 42.17

The auspicious or inauspicious result there, arising from the conjunction of good and bad grahas, should be pronounced by those skilled in fate only after considering strength and weakness.

BPHS Adhyāya 42, śloka 42.17

Śloka 42.18–19

When the lord of a kendra is placed in the Pārijāta (aṃśa), the man becomes a giver; in Uttama, an excellent giver; in Gopura, endowed with manliness. In Siṃhāsana he becomes honoured; in the Pārāvata aṃśa, a hero; in Devaloka, a president of assemblies; in the second (Brahmaloka) he is held to be a sage; and in Airāvata the native is always content.

BPHS Adhyāya 42, śloka 42.18–19

Śloka 42.20–22

When the lord of the sutā-bhāva (5th) is in Pārijāta, the learning is such as befits the family; in Uttama it is to be known as excellent; in Gopura it is marked out over the whole world (world-renowned). In Siṃhāsana the learning is to be declared as joined with ministership; but in Pārāvata, O Maitreya, brahma-vidyā is proclaimed. When the 5th lord stands in Devaloka he is endowed with karma-yoga; in the second (Brahmaloka) there is upāsanā (worship), and in Airāvata devotion (bhakti) is declared.

BPHS Adhyāya 42, śloka 42.20–22

Śloka 42.23–27

When the lord of the dharma-bhāva (9th) is placed in Pārijāta, he is a maker of pilgrimages in this birth; when in the Uttama grade, the same is to be understood of the previous birth. In Gopura he is a performer of sacrifices, both in the other (previous) birth and in this one. In Siṃhāsana he becomes a hero, truthful in speech, master of his senses. Renouncing all dharmas and resting on the one state of the Supreme Self, in Pārāvata he becomes a paramahaṃsa in this very birth. In Devaloka he is, without doubt, a tridaṇḍī or a staff-bearing ascetic; in Brahmaloka he performs the aśvamedha and goes to the station of Indra. But in Airāvata he is dharma-souled, and will himself become Dharma incarnate — he is born the equal of Rāma and of the son of Kuntī and their like.

BPHS Adhyāya 42, śloka 42.23–27

Śloka 42.28

The kendra is declared to be the seat of Viṣṇu, and the trikoṇa the seat of Lakṣmī. A relation between the lords of these two makes rāja-yoga for men.

BPHS Adhyāya 42, śloka 42.28

Śloka 42.29–30

If those two (the kendra lord and the trikoṇa lord) are placed in Pārijāta, he is a king who delights his people; in Uttama, an excellent king possessed of elephants, horses, chariots and the rest. In Gopura he becomes a tiger among kings, his feet honoured by kings; in Siṃhāsana, a cakravartin, protector of the whole earth.

BPHS Adhyāya 42, śloka 42.29–30

Śloka 42.31–34

In this yoga were born Hariścandra, and likewise Uttama the Manu, and Bali and Vaiśvānara too, and other lords of the earth's circle. In the present age the king Yudhiṣṭhira, son of Kuntī, was born so; and Śālivāhana and the rest, endowed with the glory of victory, are yet to be, O sage. In the Pārāvata aṃśa were likewise born the Manus and their like; in the equal Devaloka (aṃśa) were born here the avatāras of Hari. In Brahmaloka were born Brahmā and the rest, the guardians of the worlds; and Svāyambhuva Manu, it was declared of old, was born in the Airāvata aṃśa.
