Śloka colophon — Chapter colophon

Thus, in the Bṛhat-Pārāśara-Horāśāstra, the chapter on the antardaśās within the daśā of the Sun, according to the method of Viṃśottarī, is concluded. 53.

BPHS Adhyāya 53, śloka colophon

Śloka 1 — Sun's own antardaśā in Sun's mahādaśā — well placed

The Sun placed in his own rāśi, in his ucca, or in a kendra, in the 11th, or in a trikoṇa — in his own daśā and in his own antardaśā — produces gain of wealth, grain and the like.

BPHS Adhyāya 53, śloka 1

Śloka 2 — Sun in nīca / inauspicious rāśi; Sun as 2nd or 7th lord

But in nīca and so forth, or in an inauspicious rāśi, he gives the contrary result. When that (Sun) is lord of the second or of the seventh, one should declare the fear of an untimely death.

BPHS Adhyāya 53, śloka 2

Śloka 3 — Remedy for the doṣa of the Sun's antardaśā

To remove that fault one should perform the japa of Mṛtyuñjaya; one should perform the propitiatory rite that pleases the Sun, for the attainment of health.

BPHS Adhyāya 53, śloka 3

Śloka 4-6 — Candra antardaśā in Sun's daśā — Moon in kendra/trikoṇa, in ucca or svakṣetra

When, within the Sun's (daśā), the antardaśā of the Moon arrives, the Moon being in a kendra or trikoṇa from the lagna: marriage, auspicious undertakings, and abundance of wealth and grain. Increase of house and land, and the fortune of cattle and vehicles. And if he is in his ucca or in his own rāśi: happiness from the wife, and the coming of wealth; also the happiness of gaining a son, comfort, and meeting with the king; through the favour of the great king, the accomplishment of desired ends, bringing happiness.

BPHS Adhyāya 53, śloka 4-6

Śloka 7-8 — Moon waning or with pāpagrahas; Moon in 6/8/12

But if the Moon is waned or joined with malefics: affliction of wife, sons and the rest; discord, altercation with people, ruin of the body of servants; opposition, quarrel with the king, loss of wealth, grain and cattle. When the Moon is in the sixth, eighth or twelfth: fear from water and sickness of the mind.

BPHS Adhyāya 53, śloka 7-8

Śloka 9-10 — Further evils of an afflicted Moon antardaśā

Confinement, the affliction of disease, and the causing of fall from one's position; an evil station too, and — in the mind — strife with co-heirs. One should also declare contemptible food, oppression by thieves and by the king, and should indicate diseases such as strangury, and bodily pain.

BPHS Adhyāya 53, śloka 9-10

Śloka 11-12½ — Moon in 11th/9th/kendra from the daśā-lord, with benefics

And when (the Moon is) in the 11th or the 9th from the daśā-lord, or in a kendra, joined with benefics: satisfaction in enjoyment, fortune and the like, and the increase of wife, sons and the rest; the obtaining of dominion, great comfort, and the obtaining of a lasting position; marriage, consecration for a sacrifice, beautiful garments and ornaments; he obtains vehicles, sons and grandsons and the rest, and the increase of happiness.

BPHS Adhyāya 53, śloka 11-12½

Śloka 13-14½ — Moon in 6/8/12 from the daśā-lord, weak; Moon as 2nd/7th lord

When (the Moon) stands in the sixth, the eighth or the twelfth from the daśā-lord, and is devoid of strength: eating at improper times, and he will travel from country to country. And if he is lord of the second or of the seventh, an untimely death will come about. One should give a white cow and a she-buffalo, and perform the propitiation that bestows the attainment of happiness.

BPHS Adhyāya 53, śloka 13-14½

Śloka 15-18½ — Bhauma (Mars) antardaśā in Sun's daśā — Mars well placed

When, within the Sun's (daśā), the antardaśā of Mars arrives, and he is in his ucca, in his own kṣetra, or in the eleventh, or in a kendra or trikoṇa from the lagna, the wise man should declare auspicious undertakings: gain of land, gain from agriculture, and the increase of wealth, grain and the rest; the gain of house and field and so on, and the coming of red garments and the like. If he is joined with the lord of the lagna: comfort, and being dear to the king. If joined with the lords of the ninth and eleventh, gain too will come about, and lordship over a large army, destruction of enemies, firmness of mind, happiness of oneself and one's kinsmen, and likewise the prospering of brothers.

BPHS Adhyāya 53, śloka 15-18½

Śloka 19-21 — Mars in 6/8 from the daśā-lord, afflicted, weak or nīca

When (Mars) stands in the sixth or the eighth from the daśā-lord, and is joined with and aspected by malefics, and is destitute of lordship-strength: one should indicate a cruel turn of mind, sickness of the mind, entry into prison, and the destruction of kinsmen; also opposition with the body of brothers, or the ruin of one's work. And if Mars is in nīca or without strength, there is loss of wealth having the king as its root.

BPHS Adhyāya 53, śloka 19-21

Śloka 22 — Mars as 2nd/7th lord — affliction and its remedy

But if he is lord of the second or of the seventh, there is torpor in the body and sickness of the mind. And goodly recitation of the sacred word (su-brahma, i.e. Veda-pāṭha), japa and giving, and likewise the releasing of a bull — one should perform, according to rule, the propitiation that bestows long life and health.

BPHS Adhyāya 53, śloka 22

Śloka 23-24 — Rāhu antardaśā in Sun's daśā — Rāhu in kendra/trikoṇa

Thereafter he obtains happiness, if (Rāhu) is joined with benefics and is in a benefic aṃśa.

BPHS Adhyāya 53, śloka 23-24

Śloka 25-26½ — Rāhu in upacaya with yogakāraka, or in a benefic rāśi from the daśā-lord

(Then there is) health of body, contentment of mind, and happiness that wins the king's affection. When Rāhu is in an upacaya from the lagna and joined with a yogakāraka, or stands in a benefic rāśi reckoned from the daśā-lord, one should declare honour from the king, increase of fortune, the winning of fame, that which gives happiness of wife and sons and the rest, satisfaction from festivities for a son and the like, and auspicious well-being in the house.

BPHS Adhyāya 53, śloka 25-26½

By virtue of (his) being lord of the ninth or of the tenth, gain of dominion also comes about, and the yoga of being borne by men (a palanquin), increase of station, and great happiness. When he stands in a benefic rāśi (counted) from the lord of the daśā, there is growth of fortune that brings happiness: (the native becomes) engaged in acts of giving and dharma, fond of the worship of the deities; devotion to the guru, fulfilment of the mind's wishes, and an accumulation of meritorious deeds and the like.

One should declare enmity with kinsmen, and the loss of enjoyments through one's own family. And when Bhārgava is lord of the seventh, there is torpor in the body and sickness of the mind; and if he is joined with the eighth and the twelfth, an untimely death will come about. To remove that fault one should perform the japa of Mṛtyuñjaya; one should give a white cow and a she-buffalo, and have the Rudra-japa performed.
