Śloka 1 — Computation of the pratyantardaśā duration (Viṃśottarī)

अन्तर्दशादिनाद्यं यत् स्वस्वाब्दैर्निहतं हृतम् । विंशोत्तरशतेनासं प्रत्यन्तर-दिनादिकम् ॥ १ ॥

Parāśara said: That which is the antardaśā [measured] in days and so forth, multiplied by the respective [daśā] years [of each graha] and divided by one hundred and twenty — [that is] the pratyantardaśā in days and so forth.

उद्वेगो वित्तनाशश्च दारार्तिः शिरसि व्यथा । ब्राह्मणेन विवादश्च सूर्ये स्वविदशां गते ॥ २ ॥

When the Sun has entered his own pratyantardaśā [within his own antardaśā]: agitation, destruction of wealth, affliction to the wife, pain in the head, and dispute with a brāhmaṇa.

उद्वेगः कलहश्चापि धननाशो मनोरुजा । मणिमुक्तादिनाशश्च शशिप्रत्यन्तरे रवौ ॥ ३ ॥

In the Moon's pratyantara within the Sun['s antardaśā]: agitation, quarrel too, destruction of wealth, sickness of mind, and loss of gems, pearls and the like.

The days are of even (middling) character, gain too is small, and happiness and prosperity slight — [such] is [the result] in Bhṛgu's (Venus') pratyantardaśā.

Imprisonment, ruin at the king's hands, loss of wealth, bad food, quarrel, and constant fear from enemies — [such is] the result of Rāhu's pratyantardaśā.

Ruin of intelligence, likewise sorrow, burning grief and quarrel; everything that is planned proves fruitless — thus [runs] the result of Ijya's (Jupiter's) pratyantardaśā.

स्वामिनाशस्तथा पीडा धनहानिर्महाभयम् । वैकल्यं कलहस्त्रासो विदशायां शनेः फलम् ॥ २३ ॥

Destruction of one's master, likewise affliction, loss of wealth, great fear, disability, quarrel and terror — [such is] the result in Saturn's pratyantardaśā.

Gain of land, prosperity in wealth, contentment, the company of friends, and happiness everywhere — [this] always occurs in the Sun's pratyantardaśā.

याम्यां दिशि भवेल्लाभः सितवस्त्राविभूषणम् । संसिद्धिः सर्वकार्याणां विदशायां विधोर्भवेत् ॥ २८ ॥

Gain occurs in the southern direction; white garments and ornaments; and full accomplishment of all undertakings — [this] occurs in Vidhu's (the Moon's) pratyantardaśā.

बन्धनं बहुधा रोगो बहुघातः सुहृद्भयम् । तमसोऽन्तर्दशायां तु तमः प्रत्यन्तरे फलम् ॥ २९ ॥

Confinement, disease of many kinds, many blows, and fear from friends — this is the fruit when Tamas (Rāhu) is in the pratyantara within the antardaśā of Tamas (Rāhu), [i.e. in the Rāhu mahādaśā].

Śloka 30 — Rāhu antardaśā, Guru pratyantara

सर्वत्र लभते मानं गजाश्वं च धनागमम् । तत्रैव तु सुरेज्यस्य प्राप्ते प्रत्यन्तरे नरः ॥ ३० ॥

When, within that very [Rāhu antardaśā], the pratyantara of Surejya (Guru) is reached, a person obtains honour everywhere, elephants and horses, and the coming of wealth.

बन्धनं जायते घोरं सुखहानिर्महद् भयम् । प्रत्यहं वातपीडा च विदशायां शनेः फलम् ॥ ३१ ॥

Dreadful confinement arises, loss of comfort, great fear, and daily affliction from vāta — such is the fruit in the sub-period of Śani.

Śloka 32 — Rāhu antardaśā, Budha pratyantara

सर्वत्र बहुधा लाभः स्त्रीसङ्गत्या विशेषतः । परदेशगता सिद्धिर्विदशायां विदः फलम् ॥ ३२ ॥

Manifold gain everywhere, especially through the company of women, and success obtained in a foreign land — such is the fruit in the sub-period of Vid (Budha).

बुद्धिनाशो भयं विघ्नो धनहानिर्महद् भयम् । सर्वत्र कलहोद्वेगौ शिखिनो विदशाफलम् ॥ ३३ ॥

Ruin of the intellect, fear, obstruction, loss of wealth, great fear, and quarrel and agitation everywhere — such is the sub-period fruit of Śikhin (Ketu).

Śloka 34 — Rāhu antardaśā, Śukra pratyantara

योगिनीभ्यो भयं चैवमश्वहानिः कुभोजनम् । स्त्रीनाशः कुलजः शोकः सितस्य विदशाफलम् ॥ ३४ ॥

Fear from yoginīs, and likewise loss of horses, bad food, loss of the wife, and grief arising within the family — such is the sub-period fruit of Sita (Śukra).

ज्वररोगो महाभीतिः पुत्रपौत्रादिपीडनम् । अपमृत्युः प्रमादश्च सूर्यस्य विदशाफलम् ॥ ३५ ॥

Fever, great fright, affliction of sons and grandsons and the rest, untimely death, and heedlessness — such is the sub-period fruit of Sūrya.

उद्वेगकलहौ चिन्ता मानहानिर्महद् भयम् । पितुर्विकलता देहे शशिनो विदशाफलम् ॥ ३६ ॥

Agitation and quarrel, worry, loss of honour, great fear, and infirmity in the father's body — such is the sub-period fruit of Śaśin (Candra).

Śloka 37 — Rāhu antardaśā, Maṅgala pratyantara

भगन्दरकृता पीडा रक्तपित्तप्रपीडनम् । अर्थहानिर्महोद्वेगो भौमस्य विदशाफलम् ॥ ३७ ॥

Affliction caused by fistula (bhagandara), torment from rakta-pitta, loss of wealth, and great agitation — such is the sub-period fruit of Bhauma (Maṅgala).

Śloka 38 — Guru antardaśā, Guru pratyantara

हेमलाभो धान्यवृद्धिः कल्याणं सत्फलोदयः । अन्तर्दाये सुरेज्यस्य तस्य प्रत्यन्तरे भवेत् ॥ ३८ ॥

In the antardaśā of Surejya (Guru), in his own pratyantara, there occur gain of gold, increase of grain, welfare, and the rising of good results.

Śloka 39 — Guru antardaśā, Śani pratyantara

गोभूमिहेमलाभः स्यात् सर्वत्र सुखसाधनम् । संग्रहोऽन्नपानादेर्विदशायां शनेः फलम् ॥ ३९ ॥

There is gain of cattle, land and gold, means of comfort on every side, and the laying up of food, drink and the like — such is the fruit in the sub-period of Śani.

Śloka 40 — Guru antardaśā, Budha pratyantara

विद्यालाभो वस्त्रलाभो ज्ञानलाभः समौक्तिकः । सुहृदां संगमात् स्नेहो विदशायां विदः फलम् ॥ ४० ॥

Gain of learning, gain of garments, gain of knowledge together with pearls, and affection through the meeting of friends — such is the fruit in the sub-period of Vid (Budha).

Śloka 41 — Guru antardaśā, Ketu pratyantara

जलभीतिस्तथा चौर्यं बन्धनं कलहो भवेत् । अपमृत्युभयं घोरं ध्वजस्य विदशाफलम् ॥ ४१ ॥

There is fear of water, likewise theft, confinement and quarrel, and dreadful fear of untimely death — such is the sub-period fruit of Dhvaja (Ketu).

Śloka 42 — Guru antardaśā, Śukra pratyantara

नानाविद्यार्थसम्प्राप्तिर्हेमवस्त्रविभूषणम् । लभते क्षेमसन्तोषं विदशायां भृगोर्नरः ॥ ४२ ॥

There is attainment of manifold learning and wealth, and adornment with gold and garments; in the sub-period of Bhṛgu (Śukra) the person obtains security and contentment.

Śloka 43 — Guru antardaśā, Sūrya pratyantara

नृपाल्लाभस्तथा मित्रात् पितृतो मातृतोऽपि च । सर्वत्र लभते पूजां विदशायां रवेर्नरः ॥ ४३ ॥

There is gain from the king, likewise from a friend, and from the father and from the mother as well; in the sub-period of Ravi the person receives honour everywhere.

Śloka 44 — Guru antardaśā, Candra pratyantara

सर्वदुःखविमोक्षश्च मुक्तालाभो हयस्य च । सिद्ध्यन्ति सर्वकार्याणि चन्द्रप्रत्यन्तरे ध्रुवम् ॥ ४४ ॥

There is release from all sorrows, and gain of pearls and of a horse; in the pratyantara of Candra all undertakings certainly succeed.

शस्त्रभीतिर्गुदे पीडा वह्निमान्द्यमजीर्णता । पीडा शत्रुकृता भूरिर्भौमस्य विदशाफलम् ॥ ४५ ॥

Fear of weapons, pain in the anus, weakness of the digestive fire, indigestion, and abundant affliction caused by enemies — such is the sub-period fruit of Bhauma (Maṅgala).

Śloka 46 — Guru antardaśā, Rāhu pratyantara

चाण्डालेन विरोधः स्याद् भयं तेभ्योऽर्थ-संक्षयः । कष्टं भीर्व्याधिशत्रुभ्यस्तमसो विदशाफलम् ॥ ४६ ॥

There may be hostility with a caṇḍāla, fear from such people, wasting away of wealth, hardship, and fear from disease and from enemies — such is the sub-period fruit of Tamas (Rāhu).

Śloka 47 — Śani antardaśā, Śani pratyantara

देहपीडा कलेर्भीतिर्भयमन्त्यजलोकतः । नानादुःखं भवेन्मदान्तरे प्रत्यन्तरे शनेः ॥ ४७ ॥

Bodily pain, dread of strife, fear from outcaste people, and manifold sorrow occur in the pratyantara of Śani within the antara of Manda (Śani).

Ruin of the intellect, dread of strife, destruction of food, drink and the like, loss of wealth, and fear of an enemy — in Śani's [antardaśā], in the sub-period of Budha.

There may be confinement in an enemy's house, loss of complexion, excessive hunger, anxiety in the mind, fear and terror — indeed in the sub-period of Dhvaja (Ketu).

चिन्तितं फलितं वस्तु कल्याणं स्वजने भवेत् । मनुष्यकृतितो लाभो विदशायां भृगोः फलम् ॥ ५० ॥

The thing that was contemplated bears fruit, there is welfare among one's own people, and gain through human effort — such is the fruit in the sub-period of Bhṛgu (Śukra).

राजतेजोऽधिकारित्वं स्वगृहे जायते कलिः । ज्वरादिव्याधिपीडा च सूर्यस्य विदशाफलम् ॥ ५१ ॥

Royal splendour and the holding of office; strife arises in one's own house; and affliction from fever and other diseases — such is the sub-period fruit of Sūrya.

स्फीतबुद्धिर्महारम्भो मन्दतेजा बहुव्ययः । बहुस्त्रीभिः समं भोगः शशिनो विदशाफलम् ॥ ५२ ॥

Expanded intelligence, the undertaking of great enterprises, dimmed lustre, much expenditure, and enjoyment together with many women — such is the sub-period fruit of Śaśin (Candra).

तेजोहानिः पुत्रघातो वह्निभीती रिपोर्भयम् । वातपित्तकृता पीडा विदशायां कुजस्य वै ॥ ५३ ॥

Loss of lustre, injury to a son, fear of fire, fear of an enemy, and affliction caused by vāta and pitta — indeed in the sub-period of Kuja (Maṅgala).

A white horse, garments, pearls and the like; happiness born of gold and rubies; and the man obtains a beautiful woman — in the pratyantara of Sita (Venus).
