The complete The Chapter on the Aggregate Aṣṭakavarga (Samudāyāṣṭakavarga / Sarvāṣṭakavarga) chapter of the Bṛhat-Pārāśara-Horāśāstra — all 31 verses, each in the original Sanskrit with VedicSpace's clean-room English translation, cited by śloka. Translated from the Chaukhamba (Devachandra Jha) edition and audited against the printed plates.

Śloka 1 — Definition and construction of the Samudāyāṣṭakavarga (Sarvāṣṭakavarga) chart

In the natal chart one should enter, sign by sign, the combined total of the points of all the aṣṭakavargas; and the grahas too are to be placed as before. That indeed is the Samudāyāṣṭaka.

BPHS Adhyāya 72, śloka 1

Śloka 2 — Reading the chart; rāśis with more than 30 points are auspicious

The auspicious and inauspicious results for the native are to be known by means of that [chart]. Those rāśis whose points exceed thirty are givers of good.

BPHS Adhyāya 72, śloka 2

Śloka 3 — Middling (25–30) and deficient (<25) rāśis

Those whose points run from twenty-five up to thirty are held to be middling; and those rāśis whose points are less than that give hardship and sorrow.

BPHS Adhyāya 72, śloka 3

Śloka 4 — Electional use: choose good-point rāśis, avoid bad ones

In an auspicious undertaking, O sage, the wise man should employ those rāśis whose points are good, and should reject those that give hardship — this for the sake of welfare.

BPHS Adhyāya 72, śloka 4

Śloka 5 — A graha in a high-point rāśi gives good; the same principle for all bhāvas

A graha standing in a rāśi of higher points is a giver of good; otherwise it is inauspicious. In this way the wise man should weigh the results of all the bhāvas.

BPHS Adhyāya 72, śloka 5

Śloka 6 — Grading each bhāva's result by its point-count

Where the points are many, one should know the result to be excellent; where deficient, one should declare loss; where middling, the result arising from that bhāva is always to be known as middling.

BPHS Adhyāya 72, śloka 6

Śloka 7 — Wealth and enjoyment from the 11th, 12th and lagna point-counts

When the 11th (lābha) has more points than the madhya [10th], and likewise when the 12th (vyaya) has fewer points than the 11th, and when the lagna too has abundant points, the native is endowed with enjoyment and wealth.

BPHS Adhyāya 72, śloka 7

Śloka 8 — Reverse case = poverty; the three segments (khaṇḍas) of the bhāvas

In the reverse case, poverty is thus to be known without doubt. And, as with the daśā, one should understand a threefold division of the bhāvas.

BPHS Adhyāya 72, śloka 8

Śloka 9 — Malefics / benefics occupying a khaṇḍa

A segment mounted upon by malefic grahas is declared to cause distress; joined with benefics it is to be known as auspicious; with mixed [grahas] one should declare a mixed result.

BPHS Adhyāya 72, śloka 9

Śloka 10 — The three khaṇḍas map to the three stages of life; 7 SAV points in a sign = death that month
