Śloka 1 — Announcement of the śānti for birth in Bhadrā, avama-tithi, Vyatīpāta, Yamaghaṇṭa and similar evil combinations

भद्रावमव्यतीपात-यमघण्टादिदुर्युतौ । जनुर्यदशुभं पूर्व-मुदितं तत्र संशृणु ॥ १ ॥

Parāśara said: The birth that occurs in Bhadrā, in avama (the lapsed/diminished tithi), in Vyatīpāta, in Yamaghaṇṭa and in the like evil conjunctions has been declared inauspicious earlier; now hear (the remedy) for that.

Śloka 2 — General principle: the śānti is performed in the recurrence of the very duryoga of birth

शान्तेर्विधिं यद्विधाना-च्छिवमाप्नोति मानवः । शान्तिस्तद्दुर्युतावेव कार्या यस्यां जनुर्भवेत् ॥ २ ॥

(Hear) the procedure of the śānti, by the performance of which a man attains well-being. The śānti is to be performed in that very evil conjunction in which the birth took place.

Śloka 3 — Timing of the rite and worship of the devas and the grahas

शुभे मुहूर्ते सल्लग्ने दैवज्ञेनोदिते नरः । देवानामर्चनं तद्वद् यजनं च खचारिणाम् ॥ ३ ॥

At an auspicious muhūrta and in a good lagna declared by the astrologer, the man should perform worship of the deities and likewise the propitiation of the sky-going ones (the grahas).

Śloka 4 — Rudrābhiṣeka, incense and lamps before Śiva, and circumambulation/salutation of the aśvattha for longevity

रुद्राभिषेकमपि च धूपदीपौ शिवान्तिके । अश्वत्थस्य नमस्कार-मायुषो वृद्धिदं तथा ॥ ४ ॥

And also the Rudrābhiṣeka, and incense and lamp before Śiva; likewise obeisance to the aśvattha tree, which bestows increase of lifespan.

Śloka 5 — Homa with the Hari mantra, 108 oblations, and feeding of brāhmaṇas

हवनं हरिमन्त्रेण कुर्यादष्टोत्तरं शतम् । भोजनं ब्राह्मणानां च यथाशक्ति हि कारयेत् ॥ ५ ॥

He should perform the homa with the mantra of Hari one hundred and eight times; and he should have brāhmaṇas fed according to his capacity.

Śloka 6 — Dakṣiṇā to the ācārya at the close of the rite, and the resulting benefit

कर्मान्ते दक्षिणाश्चापि दद्यादाचार्यहेतवे । एवंकृते ध्रुवं जातो भवेत् कल्याणभाजनः ॥ ६ ॥

At the conclusion of the rite he should also give dakṣiṇā for the sake of the ācārya. When this has been done, the native assuredly becomes a recipient of well-being.
